AIRTEST Falcon Air Duct Test Device

AIRTEST Falcon Air Duct Test Device

PROFESSIONAL AIR DUCT AIRTIGHTNESS TEST SYSTEM

AIRTEST Falcon Air Duct Test Device

AIRTEST Falcon Air Duct Test Device is a compact and portable test system developed for testing HVAC air ducts under positive or negative pressure, measuring leakage airflow and evaluating duct airtightness performance.

Measurement of Airflow, Duct Pressure and Air Leakage in One System

The variable-frequency fan, differential pressure measurement system, airflow measurement element, control panel and optional smoke generator are combined in one mobile unit. This enables air duct tests to be completed on site more quickly, consistently and repeatably.

AIRTEST Falcon Air Duct Test Device

Variable Airflow Control

The frequency-converter fan enables controlled adjustment of test pressure and airflow.

Positive and Negative Testing

Airtightness testing can be carried out under positive pressure or vacuum, according to the operating scenario of the duct.

Optional Smoke Test

Leak points can be identified visually with the optional smoke generator.

Mobile and Compact

Its wheeled body makes it easy to move between construction sites, factories and different test points.

What Is an Air Duct Test Device?

An air duct test device is test equipment that determines air leakage through the duct surface by measuring the compensating airflow required to keep the duct system at a specified static pressure.

Once the duct system reaches test pressure, the device measures the quantity of air supplied to or extracted from the duct to maintain constant pressure. The measured airflow, the tested duct surface area and the acceptance criteria of the applicable standard are used to evaluate system airtightness performance.

The tests help verify flange connections, corner joints, covers, damper connections, accessory penetrations and other potential leak points in duct installation.

How Does AIRTEST Falcon Work?

1

Isolate the Test Area
The duct section to be tested is isolated airtight from other sections with suitable covers and connection components.

2

Create Test Pressure
The frequency-controlled fan brings the duct to the specified positive or negative test pressure.

3

Stabilise Pressure
Fan speed is adjusted to keep duct pressure at a stable level throughout the test.

4

Measure Leakage Airflow
The airflow required to maintain pressure is measured to determine total duct leakage.

Core Test Functions

Duct Static Pressure Measurement
Enables monitoring of positive or negative static pressure in the tested duct section.
Leakage Airflow Measurement
Total leakage airflow is calculated by measuring the compensating air required to maintain duct pressure.
Positive Pressure Test
Allows testing of supply ducts and duct systems operating under positive pressure.
Negative Pressure Test
Supports airtightness testing of return-air, exhaust and vacuum-operated duct systems.
Visual Smoke Leak Detection
With the optional smoke generator, leaks at flanges, corners and joints can be identified visually.
Airtightness-Class Assessment
The measured leakage rate can be compared with project criteria using duct surface area and test pressure.

Air Duct Airtightness Test Standards

Standard / Method Purpose of Use Assessment
SMACNA Assessment of leakage classes and test methods for air ducts Project pressure class and permitted leakage criteria are used as the basis.
Eurovent 2/2 Assessment of leakage limits based on duct pressure and surface area Leakage airflow is compared with the relevant class curves.
DIN 24194 Air duct airtightness classes and application criteria The test area and acceptance class are set according to project requirements.
DW/144 Manufacturing and airtightness assessment of metal air ducts The test pressure appropriate to the duct pressure class is applied.

Test pressure, airtightness class, acceptance limit and reporting method must be set according to the contract standard, technical specification and consultant approval.

Air Duct Airtightness Test Procedure

1. Determine Duct Surface Area
The total surface area of the tested duct section is calculated using project data or on-site measurements.
2. Seal the Test Area
Open ends, grilles, dampers and equipment connections are isolated with suitable test covers.
3. Connect the Device
The Falcon test device is connected to the duct system using a flexible hose and a suitable adaptor.
4. Increase Pressure Gradually
Fan speed is increased in a controlled manner until the duct reaches the specified test pressure.
5. Record Measurements
Duct pressure, differential pressure and leakage airflow are recorded under stable pressure conditions.
6. Assess Acceptance
Measured values are compared with the permitted limit for the duct surface area and applicable airtightness class.

Applications

HVAC air ducts
Cleanroom installations
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
Hospitals and laboratories
Industrial facilities
Shopping centres
Hotels and commercial buildings
Data centres
Paint and manufacturing facilities
Duct manufacturing workshops

Advantages of AIRTEST Falcon

Measures duct pressure and leakage airflow in the same system.
Test pressure can be adjusted precisely with the frequency-controlled fan.
Can be used for positive- and negative-pressure tests.
Leak points can be located visually with the optional smoke generator.
The mobile body provides easy transport for field testing.
Supports identification of duct manufacturing and installation defects before commissioning.
Helps detect uncontrolled air leaks that cause energy losses.
Facilitates recording test results and verifying quality-control processes.

Test and Application Note

Before air duct airtightness testing, the test pressure, duct airtightness class, duct surface area to be tested, maximum permitted leakage airflow and test direction must be determined according to the project specification.

Device capacity must suit the surface area and expected leakage quantity of the tested duct section. Very large duct sections, high test pressures or high leakage quantities may require a higher-capacity fan and measurement system.

Final technical values, measurement ranges, calibration method, electrical supply and accessory scope must be confirmed according to the AIRTEST Falcon production configuration.
