Explosion proof roof fans are roof-type axial fan solutions used to discharge exhaust air over the roof, to ventilate process areas and to select a suitable fan for applications with an explosive atmosphere risk in industrial facilities. Moreover, each fan is chosen according to the project conditions.

HCTB / HCTT series horizontal discharge roof-type axial fans feature a galvanized steel sheet mounting plate, a spun aluminium fan cowl and a plastic-bladed axial impeller. In addition, these fans are available in different diameters and airflow options for roof exhaust applications.

Horizontal Discharge Roof Fan

It discharges the exhaust air of industrial spaces to the outside by pushing air horizontally over the roof.

The HCTB/4-630 B sample model provides a maximum airflow of 13,000 m³/h at high speed.

Explosion Proof Project Suitability

In areas with an explosive atmosphere risk, the motor, electrical connection and fan selection must be evaluated according to Zone / ATEX requirements.

What Is an Explosion Proof Roof Fan?

An explosion proof roof fan is an axial fan solution used in industrial spaces with an explosive or flammable gas / vapour risk, where air must be discharged over the roof. In these fans, the fan body, motor, electrical connections and accessories must be evaluated according to the site hazardous area class. For dust-laden air, our ATEX dust collection systems can be combined with these fans.

HCTB / HCTT series horizontal discharge roof-type axial fans can be used in industrial roof exhaust applications thanks to a galvanized steel sheet mounting plate, a spun aluminium fan cowl, a plastic-bladed impeller and different diameter / airflow options. Explosion Proof Roof Fans Working Principle

Space Air Intake
First, the fan draws the hot, dirty or process-generated air inside the facility to its suction side.

Axial Air Movement
Next, the plastic axial blades move the air along the fan axis.

Discharge Over the Roof
Then, the fan cowl directs the discharge air horizontally over the roof to the outside.

Safe Exhaust
Finally, if there is an explosive atmosphere risk, the fan selection, motor and electrical equipment are chosen according to Ex requirements.

Small Diameter Models

In the 315, 355 and 400 models, the fan impeller is a single piece and is produced by plastic injection moulding. Moreover, the plastic material is glass-fibre reinforced for extra strength.

Large Diameter Models

In the 450, 500, 560, 630, 710, 800, 900 and 1000 models, the plastic blades are arranged around a fan hub made of aluminium casting.

Points to Consider in Explosion Proof Applications

The hazardous area class must be clarified as Zone 1 / Zone 2 or Zone 21 / Zone 22 in line with the ATEX directive.
The fan motor, electrical connection, junction box, cable gland and protection equipment must be selected suitable for the Ex class.
The gas, vapour or dust character of the conveyed air affects the fan material and motor selection.
Static electricity, spark risk, hot surface temperature and maintenance access must be evaluated during the project phase.
