FAN-COIL Filter

FAN-COIL Filter

COARSE AIR FILTRATION FOR FAN-COIL UNITS

FAN-COIL Filter

FAN-COIL Filter is a slim synthetic-fiber air filter used to capture coarse dust, fibers, lint and similar large particles from the return air entering fan-coil units.

Low Installation Depth, Durable Structure and Practical Maintenance

The synthetic-fiber filter media is manufactured with a galvanized frame and double-sided expanded-metal support. Therefore, its slim panel construction allows easy installation in the limited filter compartments of fan-coil units.

According to ISO 16890, the filters are classified within the ISO Coarse group. In addition, they can be manufactured for project-specific requirements with different efficiency classes, widths, heights and media thicknesses.

What Is a FAN-COIL Filter?

A FAN-COIL Filter is a prefilter used to limit coarse dust carried with room air from reaching the coil, fan blades, drain pan and internal surfaces of a fan-coil unit.

The filter media is installed inside a galvanized frame and supported on both sides by expanded metal mesh. As a result, the structure helps the filter maintain its shape under airflow and allows secure installation in the fan-coil filter compartment.

Furthermore, the low panel thickness makes it possible to manufacture custom dimensions for ceiling, cassette, floor-mounted and ducted fan-coil units with different filter compartments.

How Does a FAN-COIL Filter Work?

1

Return Air Is Drawn In
Room air reaches the filter section of the fan-coil unit due to the suction generated by the fan.

2

Coarse Particles Are Captured
Large particles such as dust, fibers and lint are captured by the synthetic-fiber filter media.

3

Equipment Is Protected
Filtered air reaches the coil and fan, helping limit contamination inside the unit.

4

Filter Maintenance Is Performed
When dirty, the filter is cleaned or replaced according to the applicable maintenance procedure.

Advantages of the FAN-COIL Filter

Slim construction allows easy installation in limited filter compartments.
Helps limit contamination of the fan-coil coil and fan blades.
Galvanized frame provides a robust and durable structure.
Double-sided metal support helps reduce media deformation.
Can be manufactured in different ISO Coarse classes.
Can be custom-sized according to the existing equipment filter compartment.
Filter replacement and periodic maintenance are practical.
Helps reduce dust accumulation and maintenance requirements inside the unit.

FAN-COIL Filter Selection Criteria

Clear Filter DimensionsThe width, height and depth of the filter housing should be measured accurately.
Filter ClassISO Coarse 25%, 45% or 55% should be selected according to equipment and room conditions.
Air VelocityHigher face velocity may also increase filter pressure drop.
Initial Pressure DropThe available external static pressure of the fan and equipment airflow should be checked.
Frame ConstructionThe galvanized frame should fit the housing without gaps and should not permit air bypass.
Maintenance FrequencyMaintenance intervals should be determined according to room dust load, operating time and occupancy.

Installation and Maintenance Recommendations

The filter should be inserted into the fan-coil filter housing without bending or forcing it.
No gaps that could cause air leakage should remain around the frame.
The filter surface should not be crushed or torn, and the metal support structure should not be deformed.
During periodic inspections, coil and fan cleanliness should also be evaluated together with filter contamination.
Damaged, deformed or excessively contaminated filters should be replaced.
During maintenance, the equipment must be isolated from its energy supply and the manufacturer’s safety instructions should be followed.

Technical Selection and Application Note

FAN-COIL Filters are intended for coarse-particle filtration. Therefore, they are not sufficient by themselves for applications requiring fine-particle, microorganism, gas, odor or chemical-vapor filtration.

Selecting a higher filtration class may reduce fan-coil airflow and increase the sound level of the unit. Consequently, fan capacity and available static pressure should be checked before changing the filter class.

Filter life and actual pressure drop depend on face velocity, room dust load, operating period, installation sealing, maintenance frequency and process conditions.

For further reference on general ventilation air-filter classification, see the official ISO 16890-1 standard page.
