Industrial Silos

Industrial Silos

INDUSTRIAL STORAGE AND TRANSFER SYSTEMS

Industrial Silos

Silo Systems for Powders, Granules and Bulk Raw Materials

Industrial silos are storage systems designed to contain and manage powders, granules and other compatible dry bulk materials under defined operating conditions.

They can support material storage, controlled feeding and production-line transfer in cement, food, chemical, plastics, pharmaceutical, animal-feed, energy and process plants. Liquid products normally require a suitably designed storage or process tank rather than a conventional bulk-solids silo.

Industrial silos for powders, granules and bulk materials

◊

Indicative 10–100 m³ Range

Different silo volumes can be evaluated according to storage demand, material properties and site conditions.

⇄

Screw or Pneumatic Transfer

Stored material can be transferred using a screw conveyor, gravity or a suitably engineered pneumatic system.

⚙

Level and Flow Control

Level instruments, isolation valves and flow aids can support controlled filling and discharge.

What Is an Industrial Silo?

An industrial silo is a purpose-designed system primarily used for storing powders, granules and bulk raw materials. It can support stock management, continuous production-line feeding and controlled material transfer.

Design inputs include bulk density, moisture, flowability, particle size distribution, abrasiveness, cohesion, filling rate and discharge method. The resulting system may use a vertical or horizontal arrangement, a conical hopper, filtration, level instruments and pneumatic or mechanical flow aids.

Key Technical Features

Capacity:
Project-specific silo volumes within an indicative 10–100 m³ range can be evaluated.
Material:
Certified structural carbon steel, stainless steel or suitable lining systems can be specified according to the product, environment and design basis.
Dust Filtration:
A correctly sized vent filter can reduce dust emissions during filling and air displacement.
Transfer:
Screw, gravity or pneumatic transfer can be selected according to the material and required flow rate.
Isolation Valve:
Manual or actuated isolation valves can be integrated subject to the process and safety requirements.
Level Control:
Rotary-paddle, vibrating, radar or other suitable level technologies can be selected according to the material.

Technical Structure of Silo Systems

◊

Silo Body
The body and supports are engineered for material loads, filling and discharge effects, wind, seismic actions and site conditions as applicable.

☁

Dust Control
Filtration and venting are sized for filling airflow, displaced air and the permitted silo pressure or vacuum.

⇄

Discharge System
Screw, gravity or pneumatic discharge is selected using the required flow pattern, product properties and downstream process.

⚙

Flow Assistance
Aeration, vibration or other flow aids may be considered after evaluating compaction, caking and bridging behaviour.

Energy and process plants

Industrial Silo Selection Criteria

Stored Material

Bulk density, moisture, particle distribution, cohesion, abrasiveness, contamination sensitivity and combustion properties influence the design.

Capacity and Site Layout

Daily consumption, delivery volume, storage time, production demand, transport dimensions, foundation and available space determine the arrangement.

Filling and Discharge

Filling rate, vent capacity, screw or pneumatic transfer, valves, flow aids, weighing and level instruments should be engineered as one system.

Operational Benefits

Supports high-volume bulk-material storage within a compact vertical footprint.
Helps provide controlled material feeding to the production line.
A correctly maintained filter can reduce dust emissions during filling.
Suitable instruments support stock monitoring and overfill protection.
Correctly selected flow aids can reduce compaction and bridging problems.
Manual or automated discharge control can be configured for the process.

Combustible-Dust and Explosion Safety

Flour, sugar, feed, plastics, pharmaceuticals and many other fine powders may form explosible dust clouds. Material-specific data such as particle size, moisture, minimum ignition energy and dust-explosion severity should be evaluated.

Where an explosive atmosphere may occur, hazardous-area classification, grounding, ignition-source control, explosion venting or suppression, isolation and appropriately certified equipment must be determined through a risk assessment. In the EU, equipment and protective systems within scope are subject to the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

Request Information About Industrial Silos

Industrial silos should be evaluated according to material properties, capacity, filling rate, discharge method, dust characteristics, level control, site loads, foundation and production-line integration.
