Modular Skid Systems

Modular Skid Systems

INDUSTRIAL MODULAR PROCESS SYSTEMS

Modular Skid Systems

Integrated, Factory-Assembled Process Skid Units

Modular skid systems combine equipment for dosing, transfer, mixing, filtration, separation, heating or cooling on a common structural frame. Each unit is engineered around the process fluid, required capacity and operating conditions.

Pumps, valves, piping, tanks, filters, heat exchangers, instruments and control panels can be assembled and tested at the factory within the agreed scope. Final site connections, acceptance testing and commissioning are completed after installation.

Modular skid systems

◊

Compact Integrated Layout

Pumps, valves, piping, tanks, instruments and controls can be arranged on a common frame.

⇄

Reduced Site Assembly

Factory assembly and agreed tests can reduce site work and support a more controlled installation process.

⚙

Process Integration

The configuration can be adapted to dosing, transfer, mixing, filtration, separation and thermal duties.

What Is a Modular Process Skid?

A modular process skid is an engineered unit in which the required process equipment is assembled on a structural frame. Depending on the application, the module may include pumps, piping, valve assemblies, tanks, filters, heat exchangers, flowmeters, sensors and control panels.

The skid boundary, transport dimensions, lifting points, maintenance access and site interfaces are defined during engineering. Factory fabrication can improve quality control; however, safe operation still depends on correct installation, utilities, site testing and commissioning.

Key Technical Features

Structural Frame:
Carbon steel, stainless steel or coated construction, checked for operating, test, transport, lifting and anchoring loads.
Piping Materials:
Selected according to fluid compatibility, corrosion risk, design pressure, temperature and the applicable piping specification.
Equipment Integration:
Pumps, valves, tanks, filters, heat exchangers, meters, instruments and auxiliary equipment.
Automation:
PLC panels, measurements, alarms, interlocks and emergency functions can be integrated where required.
Inspection and Testing:
Pressure, leak, electrical, functional and performance checks are performed as required by the approved test plan.
Site Installation:
Defined tie-in points can simplify installation. Site acceptance testing and commissioning remain part of final verification.

Modular Skid System Configuration

◊

Supporting Frame
Equipment is positioned on an engineered frame with defined lifting, anchoring and maintenance provisions.

⇄

Process Piping
Pipe sizes, valves and fittings are selected for the fluid, flow rate, pressure, temperature and design code.

⚙

Automation and Safety Controls
Instruments, control panels, PLC logic, alarms and interlocks can support controlled operation.

✓

Factory-Tested Scope
Mechanical, electrical and functional checks can be documented before shipment within the agreed FAT scope.

Types of Modular Skid Systems

Chemical Dosing Skids

Designed with tanks, metering pumps, valves, containment and controls selected for chemical compatibility and the required dosing range.

Mixing and Reaction Skids

Used for preparation, mixing and reaction duties after assessing agitation, heat removal, material compatibility and process hazards.

Heating and Cooling Skids

Heat exchangers, pumps, control valves and instruments can be integrated to manage process temperature within the specified duty.

Filtration and Separation Skids

Filter and separation equipment can be configured for solids removal, process filtration or gas treatment according to performance requirements.

Pump and Transfer Skids

Pumps, valves, piping, flowmeters and pressure controls can be selected for compatible liquid or gas transfer services.

Energy and Fuel Skids

Project-specific solutions may support steam, fuel, biogas or natural-gas duties after regulatory, shutdown and hazardous-area requirements are defined.

Modular Skid Manufacturing Process

1. Process Analysis
Fluid properties, capacity, pressure, temperature, control needs and operating scenarios are evaluated.
2. Engineering Design
The P&ID, equipment layout, piping routes, skid limits, interfaces and control philosophy are prepared.
3. Material Selection
Materials, pumps, valves, instruments and sealing systems are selected for the design conditions.
4. Mechanical Assembly
The frame, piping, tanks, pumps, filters, valves and auxiliary equipment are fabricated and assembled.
5. Automation Integration
Sensors, control panels, PLC hardware, wiring, alarms and interlocks are integrated as specified.
6. Testing and Shipment
Required inspections and FAT activities are documented before preservation, packing and shipment.

Modular Skid System Applications

Chemical and petrochemical plants
Energy and power facilities
Food and beverage production
Pharmaceutical and biotechnology processes
Water and wastewater treatment
Industrial transfer and dosing lines

Modular Skid Selection Criteria

Process Requirements

Capacity, operating range, turndown, process sequence, utilities and control philosophy form the basis of the design.

Fluid and Material Compatibility

Chemical composition, pressure, temperature, viscosity, solids and corrosion risk influence material and equipment selection.

Site and Transport Conditions

Skid dimensions, lifting points, transport limits, tie-in directions, maintenance access and site loads must be considered.

Codes, Safety and Acceptance Testing

The required codes are established for the destination, equipment boundaries and contractual scope. Depending on the project, this may include ASME B31.3 Process Piping, applicable pressure-equipment rules, machinery legislation and industry-specific hygiene or validation requirements.

Where explosive atmospheres may occur, hazardous-area classification and suitable ATEX equipment may be required. FAT does not replace site acceptance testing, utility checks, grounding, relief-system review, interlock validation or commissioning.

Advantages of Modular Skid Systems

Can reduce site assembly work and installation time.
Supports a compact and coordinated equipment layout.
Allows controlled fabrication and inspection in a workshop environment.
Factory checks can identify selected issues before shipment.
Can be engineered for future expansion or process changes.
May improve project coordination when interfaces are clearly defined.

Request Information About Modular Skid Systems

Each skid project should be evaluated according to the process duty, fluid properties, capacity, pressure, temperature, materials, automation level, equipment arrangement, destination requirements and site interfaces.
