Softwall Clean Booths
Local Clean Area Solutions up to ISO 5 Class with FFU, HEPA Filters, and Flexible Wall Systems
Softwall clean booths are modular clean booth systems used to create clean-air conditions only in a designated area within an existing production or laboratory space.
With FFU fan filter units, HEPA / ULPA filters, aluminum or stainless-steel frames, anti-static PVC curtains, and wall options including acrylic, tempered glass, or sandwich panels, clean booths offer a practical and economical clean-area solution for pharmaceutical, microbiology, electronics, scientific testing, laboratory, and partial purification processes.

ISO 5 Cleanliness Class
With suitable FFUs, filters, and air-change calculations, a local clean area up to ISO 5 / Class 100 can be created.
HEPA / ULPA Filtration
Particle control is provided with mini-pleat HEPA or ULPA filter options.
Modular and Portable
Offers a modular structure that can be quickly installed in an existing facility, with dimensions and wall materials selected for the project.
What Is a Softwall Clean Booth?
A softwall clean booth is a local clean-area system enclosed with PVC curtains, acrylic panels, tempered glass, or sandwich panels within an existing room and equipped with FFU fan filter units on its ceiling. It offers a more practical, quicker-to-install, and more flexible solution than cleanroom construction.
The cleanliness level inside the booth is determined by booth volume, air-change rate, filter type, FFU capacity, air velocity, and wall / ceiling material. Therefore, softwall clean booth selection must be made with an engineering calculation according to the required cleanliness class.
Softwall Clean Booth Operating Principle
FFU Air SupplyFan filter units in the ceiling section draw in ambient air and pass it through the filter.
HEPA / ULPA FiltrationHEPA or ULPA filters retain particles and supply clean air into the booth.
Top Laminar FlowClean air is supplied vertically to the work area at a controlled velocity.
Local Clean AreaPVC curtains or panel walls help preserve clean air inside the booth.

Clean Booth Air Change Reference Table
| Cleanroom Class | General Air Change Value | USA 209E Reference | Average Air Velocity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 100,000 | 20 – 30 air changes / hour | 20 | 0.005 – 0.041 m/s |
| Class 10,000 | 30 – 70 air changes / hour | 70 | 0.051 – 0.076 m/s |
| Class 1,000 | 100 – 200 air changes / hour | 150 | 0.127 – 0.202 m/s |
| Class 100 | 200 – 600 air changes / hour | 250 – 400 | 0.203 – 0.408 m/s |
Formula: Air changes per hour = Average air velocity × discharge area × 3600 / room volume.
Filter Type Comparison Table
| Parameter | Medium / High-Efficiency Filter | HEPA Filter | ULPA Filter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filtration class application | Class 10 – 100,000 | Class 100 – 10,000 | Class 10 |
| Typical application example | Normal office / general area | Post-IC processes and sensitive manufacturing areas | Pre-IC processes and highly sensitive applications |
| Performance | High capture capacity compared with coarse filters | Up to 99.97% efficiency for 0.3 μm particles | Up to 99.999% efficiency for 0.1 μm particles |
FFU Airflow Selection Calculation
The number of FFUs and airflow rate to be used in a softwall clean booth are calculated according to the booth volume and targeted air-change rate.
Required airflow: Booth volume (m³) × target air-change rate (air changes/hour) ÷ 60
For example, in a clean booth with a width of 3 m, a length of 2 m, a height of 2 m, and a Class 10,000 target, the required airflow can be calculated approximately as (3 × 2 × 2) × 75 ÷ 60 = 15 m³/min.
