Spray Scrubber Systems
Low-Pressure-Drop Gas Scrubbing System Using Absorption and Chemisorption
Spray Scrubber Systems bring particle-laden gas streams into contact with liquid droplets. They are simple, low-energy and reliable wet-scrubbing solutions for dust, fumes, harmful gases and soluble pollutants.
Multiple spray zones, controlled droplet size, top-access nozzles and a mist eliminator enable the system to treat industrial waste gas, chemical vapours, particles and liquid aerosols.
100 – 30,000 CFM
Can be designed for a wide range of industrial process airflow rates.
Up to 95% Efficiency
High removal efficiency may be targeted according to pollutant type, solubility, chemical reagent and contact time.
Low Pressure Drop
May use less energy than Venturi and packed-bed scrubber systems.
What Is a Spray Scrubber?
A spray scrubber is a wet gas-cleaning system that brings an air stream containing particles or gas pollutants into contact with liquid droplets inside a washing chamber. Nozzles atomise the scrubbing liquid before it contacts the gas stream.
Spray scrubber systems can perform effectively when pollutant gases are highly soluble or when a suitable chemical reagent is added to the scrubbing liquid. They help remove both dust and gas-phase components.
Spray Scrubber Operating Principle
Contaminated Gas InletAn air stream containing particles or harmful gases enters the scrubber chamber.
Multiple Spray ZonesNozzles spray the scrubbing liquid across the gas stream with controlled droplet size.
Absorption / ChemisorptionPollutants transfer into the liquid phase or react with a chemical reagent and leave the gas stream.
Mist SeparationA mist eliminator reduces the carryover of liquid droplets into the outlet air.

Vertical and Horizontal Spray Scrubber Designs
| Design Type | Operating Structure | Application Note |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical spray tower | The gas stream moves upward through the chamber and contacts multiple spray-nozzle zones. | A top-mounted mist eliminator separates liquid droplets from the outlet air. |
| Horizontal spray chamber | The gas stream moves horizontally through the unit and contacts the spray zones. | Can be selected according to installation space, duct connection and maintenance access. |
Advantages of Spray Scrubbers
Application Areas
Application Note
When selecting a spray scrubber, evaluate gas flow, pollutant concentration, pollutant solubility, chemical reagent and target removal efficiency together. Nozzle type, droplet size, liquid flow, pressure drop, material resistance, mist-eliminator type and drainage requirements should also be considered.
