Wet Scrubber Systems
Wet Scrubbing Systems for Odour, Harmful Gas and Chemical Vapour Removal
Wet Scrubber Systems are wet odour-control units. They reduce or remove odours, harmful gases and chemical vapours. Typical applications include pump stations, wastewater treatment plants, screening buildings, sludge-dewatering areas and industrial processes.
Available in single- or two-stage vertical designs, wet scrubber systems clean contaminated air. Fans, suitable chemical solutions, spray nozzles, packing media and adequate contact time support the treatment process.

Odour Control
Used to reduce or remove odours generated by wastewater, sludge and industrial processes.
Chemical Scrubbing
Contaminated air is washed with suitable chemical solutions to remove harmful gases and odour components.
Single / Two Stage
Designed as a single- or two-stage system according to gas characteristics and removal targets.
What Is a Wet Scrubber System?
A wet scrubber system is a gas-cleaning unit that captures odours, harmful gases, acidic components and alkaline components by bringing contaminated air into contact with a liquid phase. Air meets water or a chemical solution, and unwanted gas components transfer into the liquid.
Wet scrubber systems are widely used to control hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, organic odour compounds and process-related nuisance odours. Common sites include wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, screening buildings and sludge-dewatering buildings.
Wet Scrubber System Operating Principle
Contaminated Air Intake
An induced-draft or supply fan moves air containing odours and harmful gases into the scrubber unit.
Chemical Spraying
Nozzles spray the scrubbing liquid across the gas stream at the required angle and flow rate.
Contact at Packing Media
Packing media increase the gas-liquid contact area. This supports odour and harmful-gas removal.
Clean Air Discharge
An eliminator removes entrained droplets from treated air before it is discharged.

Wet Scrubber Technical Information Table
| Section / Feature | Function | Application Note |
|---|---|---|
| Scrubber housing | Guides contaminated air through the chemical-scrubbing section. | Can be designed as a vertical single- or two-stage unit. |
| Fan | Moves odorous and contaminated air into the scrubber unit. | Selected according to airflow, pressure loss and ductwork. |
| Spray nozzles | Spray the scrubbing liquid into the gas stream with the required droplet pattern. | Nozzle angle, capacity and material are selected for the chemical solution. |
| Packing media | Increase the gas-liquid contact area. | Critical for contact time and removal efficiency. |
| Recirculation pump | Feeds the scrubbing liquid to the nozzles. | Selected for chemical resistance and required flow rate. |
| Chemical dosing system | Feeds chemicals based on pH or ORP values. | Acidic, alkaline or oxidising chemicals may be used according to the gas type. |
| Mist eliminator | Reduces liquid carryover at the clean-air outlet. | Helps prevent liquid from entering the exhaust line. |
| Blowdown and drainage | Provides controlled discharge of spent scrubbing liquid. | Wastewater connection and chemical management should be considered. |
Single-Stage and Two-Stage Wet Scrubbers
| System Type | Purpose | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Single-stage wet scrubber | Single gas type or moderate odour-removal duty | Gas is washed with a suitable chemical solution in one scrubbing tower. |
| Two-stage wet scrubber | Different gas components and high removal requirements | Two chemical scrubbing stages can address acidic, alkaline or oxidising removal scenarios. |
